This children's book retells the story of the Poukai. The Poukai is a gathering instituted by King Tawhiao in 1884. The Poukai was a way of looking after and feeding the Kings people driven from their homeland after the land wars in 1863. The story is written in a simplistic way for children to gain a better understanding of the Poukai.
