Jacob Olie photographed Amsterdam at the end of the 19th century. He recorded the development of the sleepy town into a modern city, with its buzzing activity, railroads and shipping. Olie took his first pictures in the 1860's. Amsterdam at the time had hardly changed since the 17th century boom.
